Pony with No Name

Recently we had the opportunity to rescue a pony that had been neglected and was going to the auction barn. Poor guy was thin and did not trust humans. We brought him home, rehabilitated him, and now he is in the work force. As with all our livestock, everyone here has a job, or they go. He is doing well in his training as a draft animal and will be a great help around here doing the heavier jobs that our draft goat, Shadow, can't do.

However, the poor guy doesn't have a name! We, here on the homestead, can't agree on a name either. I like Scout, our son likes Bill (from The Lord of the Rings), and my husband likes Ed. So, I've decided to have a name the pony contest. Submit a name in the comments page and if we agree on that name, the winner of the contest will receive 4 oz of roving from my sheep. The winner can pick from either white or grey.

    Reminds me of a horse I worked with named Dakota. Draft goat???

    I agree with your son. Name him Bill! His history kind of matches the story of Bill in LotR.

    How about Noone with a long "e" sound on the end (this name is short for NO-Name!) You have a great looking pony there. It took me a long time to find a decent pony. You really lucked out....and so did he! :)

    Jackpot, because he's hit the jackpot since you rescued him. (you are taking such good care of him and given him a loving home, jackpot!) His nickname could be Jack.

    That's my dog's full name... LOL! I call him Jack for short.

    Anyway, how about Dodger, as in, "dodged a bullet," due to your wonderful rescue of him.

    How about Clyde? The term draft animal had a vision of the Budweiser Clydesdales in mind. the picture even looks a bit like a Clydesdale. Besides, he will tower over the other draft animals. :-D

    He looks like a "Jake"... I don't know why, but that is what he feels like.

    I love people names for animals, one of our dogs is Klara, the rest all have funny names because we breed Borzoi and they get names that work with our Kennel Name and have a theme within a litter.

    Sherwin Williams - Paint. Just seemed funny... Sherwin - Sure Win. He is my dream horse, and rescue being such a big part of that dream. I hate to see them in that shape... and he found a sure win being adopted by your family. He will now have a nice home, and a job to do - great for his self esteem. A sure win if I do say so myself.

    My first thought on seeing his photo, all decked out in his harness, was the book by Marguerite Henry, illustrated by Wesley Dennis. 5 o'clock Charlie.... so Charlie is my suggestion.

    On second glance, he has the exact same coloring and nearly the same markings as my very first pony...a tiny stout shetland... which I named at 6, "Apple Jack" (my favorite cereal, which my pony ate any chance I let him).

    How about Fleckleberry? It is kind of a mix between Huckleberry Finn (since the ppor guy has probably had lots of adventures himself) and the German "fleck" which means "spot". Or "fleck" from "flecked" ;)

    My suggestion is Free Willie. Okay, so he's brown and white instead of black and white like an orca, but you did "free" him from a terrible fate, and "Willie" and "Bill" are both nicknames of William.
